The land for Hamlet West was originally acquired in the 1960s by Dean and Lynda Shorter. The first plat of Hamlet West (original Lots 1–45) was officially recorded on January 21, 1971. Lots 1, 43, 44, and 45 were later split into two lots each, resulting in a total of 49 building sites. The water system was established and approved by the State of Michigan Health Department, and monthly tests are still a requirement. The Hamlet West Property Owners Association was incorporated on August 9, 1971, as a nonprofit organization governed by its membership .Hamlet West No. 2, which includes Lots 46–63, was recorded on July 17, 1981.Hamlet West 3, a site condominium, was recorded on October 17, 1997 (Units 64–80).It was the developer’s intention that each home in Hamlet West would have a unique exterior appearance. To ensure this, deed restrictions were filed for Hamlet West, Hamlet West No. 2, and Hamlet West 3. These restrictions were, and continue to be, a condition of purchase that must be agreed upon when buying property in Hamlet West. An Architectural Control Committee was established to approve any future renovations or building projects.*Trees planted by the Shorter boys.*
